James Martin
Twenty Years Later
In 1981, I photographed the Remembrance Day ceremony at the
War Memorial on Duckworth Street. I shot over 100 B&W photographs of the
veterans on parade that day. When I photographed the 1997 ceremonies, I was
surprised that I remembered a face from 1981. In 2001, I saw the same man again and,
while I don't know his name, thought that it would be an interesting comparison to show
the photos.
I was watching your news piece tonight on NTV
and recognized the man on the
computer screen behind you as my husband's uncle. His name is James Martin.
His pictures are sj970001.JPG, St. John's 1997, L08, St. John's 1981 and
PB103500.JPG, St. John's 2001.
He is living in St. John's and was named an Honorary member of the Royal
Canadian Legion for all the work he has performed for them over the years.
If you want any more information, you can e-mail this address. His sister
and brother are both living in St. John's and could provide us with more
info.

Hi Bruce,
Jim Martin was not "honorary member" of the legion, but did join fully.
After the war, he was involved in after care for the veterans of war. He
visited many vets in hospitals, helped out with families of those lost by
giving support, beginning friendship with families, and helped set up
financial help where needed.
