The photos on this gallery
were taken near Witless Bay Seabird Sanctuary. You can see that
there are literally hundreds of the birds flying and others in the
water. They are hunting capelin, a small fish that spawns on the
beaches all around the Island of Newfoundland. Kittiwakes are
excellent fliers and it is a pleasure to watch, and photograph, them. I
find it amazing that they don't fly into each other. They seem to
be concentrating on the water, not on what is happening around them.
