Florida Cooter
Pseudemys floridana
I enjoy making photographs of reptiles. I
photographed this Florida Cooter in Southwest Florida. I spotted it
coming out of the water, but I spooked it and it went back into the water.
Later the same day, I spotted a turtle crossing the road. I made a
few photos of it, then it continued across the street and onto a lawn.
It circled a few times, then finally settled on a place and started to dig
with its hind legs. I watched as the turtle actually dug three
separate holes and laid eggs in them. Then she filled in the holes
and patted down the soil and made its way back to the pond. The
whole process took about 2 hours.
